While some say telecommuting jobs are just for stay-at-home moms, others consider it crucial to balance their professional and personal lives. Even then, the number of teleworkers are on the rise. In fact, there are companies which have 100% of the staff working remotely!

Here are some of the reasons why telecommuting is going mainstream:

  1. Improved Technology – The advent of new and improved technology and communication channels make telecommuting a breeze. There are several collaboration tools and software, which makes it easy for remote workers to stay connected to their teams and attend meetings from any location.
  2. Enhanced Productivity – Working remotely doesn’t mean that the employee will begin slacking and miss several deadlines in a row. Remote workers are professionals and being in a setting of their choice helps them focus on the task. This makes them more productive.
  3. Commute Hassles No More – Admit it. No one likes to commute long distances to and from work. It’s annoying, frustrating and a waste of time. Teleworkers avoid the daily stress that comes with commuting to work. This gives them more time for their work and family! This takes us to the next point.
  4. Better Work-Life Balance – Telecommuters can easily balance their professional and personal commitments, especially when they have a flexible schedule. All they need to do is establish some ground rules about their work and family times and the sailing becomes smooth!
  5. Less Down Time – Remote workers or freelancers get more time to focus on their health such as exercising, eating healthy and making other healthy lifestyle choices. Obviously, this means they tend to fall ill less and therefore, help reduce down time.
  6. Reduced Overhead Costs – It’s nice to have employees working in their cubicles. But think of the space, the rent, supplies, electricity and more. All these add to the overhead costs, which can be easily avoided with teleworking.
  7. Opportunity to Earn More – One of the most common myths about working as a freelancer or telecommuting is that remote workers get paid peanuts. However, there are several jobs that offer high remunerations to those who fit the role. These include but are not limited to writing, photography, translation, project management, editing and so on.
