Apex CoVantage is seeking freelance copy editors and indexers in the U.S. Compensation for these home-based positions is competitive.

Candidates may be required to take a short editing/indexing test prior to hire.

First, the freelance copy editing position:

“Apex is looking for freelance copyeditors to perform line editing on academic nonfiction books. Subjects range from philosophy to history, anthropology to fashion. Although expertise in these fields is not required, successful candidates will be familiar with the formality and conventions of academic writing.”

Requirements (from work-at-home job listing):

  • Bachelor of Arts degree
  • Working knowledge of the Chicago Manual of Style, the American Psychological Association Publication Manual, and other major style guides
  • Extensive written and verbal communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word
  • Foreign language backgrounds welcome
  • Experience working in an academic publishing environment a plus

Second, the freelance indexing position:

From the company:

“Apex CoVantage is currently looking for experienced freelance indexers to index academic nonfiction books covering a wide range of topics, including art, history, psychology, environmental studies, and more.”

Requirements (from the listing):

  • General knowledge of major style guides
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Word and ability to navigate a PDF
  • Experience working in academic publishing a plus
