Requirements for Freelance Proofreader (from work-at-home job listing):

Expertise in detailed QA/proofreading is a must. Strong attention to detail and exceptional accuracy

Ability to locate and identify errors in documents and files on an elite level; unparalleled eye for consistency

Strong written communication skills; deep knowledge of and solid command of the English language

Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Must be able to mark-up changes using Word and/or Adobe Acrobat tools

Strong organizational skills and ability to work efficiently within strict deadlines

Ability to pick things up quickly, work autonomously, and be comfortable with ambiguity

Effective working remotely and able to work with software and computer tools as needed

Ability to work several hours sitting at a computer
Responsibilities (from listing):

QA/proofread scientific/medical articles/proofs against client-provided documents, noting differences and egregious errors

A word-for-word proofread is not always required, but a “cold read” for egregious errors
-
Performs QC reads on assigned projects, providing a highly detailed quality check of copy and content

Checks files for primarily copy-based and visual errors, identifying any errors that have not been corrected in previous reviews
